So what is it all about????

Toxicology is the branch of science that deals with the harmful effects of chemicals, could be natural or man –made poison, on living organism. Harmful effect that could affect the usual function of individual.

  • Routes Of Exposure

    • Gastrointestinal
    • Respiratory
    • Dermal

Subdiscipline of Toxicology

Drugs
Marijuana

It deals with the toxic effects of drugs whose purpose is to prevent a disease. Drugs can also cause harmful effects dependent on different factors such as individual age, dose of drugs, and hypersensitivity reaction.
People nowadays, get use of taking drugs just to satisfy one needs and for suicidal use. One way of having suicide is by overdose method, taking larger dose than the usual amount.

It mainly concerned on the content of toxic substance in food, properties, and its effects.

During the preparation of food different types of additives were use to make food look and smell better. Additives include artificial sweeteners (that increase the sweetness of food), color (enhance or add color), Glazing agent (improves appearance of food), and preservatives (stop microbes from multiplying and spoiling the food). Another factor that affect is the pesticide use.

    • Flavour enhancers – monosodium glutamate (MSG) 621
    • Food colourings – tartrazine 102; yellow 2G107; sunset yellow FCF110; cochineal 120
    • Preservatives – benzoates 210, 211, 212, 213; nitrates 249, 250, 251, 252; sulphites 220, 221, 222, 223, 224, 225 and 228
